The Alirio Diaz Competition

Alirio Díaz, one of the most important guitarists in history, made an extraordinary contribution to the world of classical guitar through his legendary concerts, recordings, and his dedication to the promotion of guitar music worldwide.

In 2013, his son Senio Díaz visited Rust and expressed his desire to support the festival and its commitment to classical guitar. Gabriel Guillén invited him to take over the artistic coordination of the competition, a role which he gladly accepted.

Since then, the two competitions held during the festival have proudly carried the name of Alirio Díaz, honoring the legacy of one of the greatest ambassadors of the classical guitar.
